Based on what we\u2019ve heard from our members, service user organisations and service user<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">s<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> themselves we\u2019ve been <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">very<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> concerned about how the UK-wide lockdown (March-June 2020) affected people\u2019s access to the speech and language therapy they and their families and carers need.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">To help us understand the issue better and to inform our response, <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">we\u2019ve<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> just launched a UK-wide survey. <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Following consultation with service user organisations, the three key questions <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">we\u2019re<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> asking<\/span> <span data-contrast=\"auto\">are:<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-aria-level=\"1\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-listid=\"1\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">How did lockdown affect your speech and language therapy?<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233279&quot;:true,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-aria-level=\"1\" data-aria-posinset=\"2\" data-listid=\"1\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">What impact did this have <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">on you?<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233279&quot;:true,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-aria-level=\"1\" data-aria-posinset=\"2\" data-listid=\"1\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">What are your thoughts about the future?<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233279&quot;:true,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">From the start, we were clear: we wanted the survey to be as accessible as possible to as many people as possible, no matter how they communicate<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> and no matter what their communication preference is<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Over the past couple of months, <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">we\u2019ve<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> worked with members to produce the survey in a range of accessible formats.&nbsp;<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">We\u2019re particularly delighted that one of those formats is Talking Mats &#8211; and we\u2019re very grateful to Lois<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> and Laura <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">for all <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">their <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">advice and support<\/span> <span data-contrast=\"auto\">. <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">As you will know better than anyone, the mats will<\/span> <span data-contrast=\"auto\">enabl<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">e<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> people to <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">give<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> us their views and <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">tell us <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">how <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">they\u2019ve<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> felt and are feeling.<\/span> <span data-contrast=\"auto\">We are delighted the mats will provide people with the means to self-advocate &#8211; th<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">is will add a richness to the survey findings that they might otherwise lack.&nbsp;<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-9211\" src=\"https:\/\/www.talkingmats.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Talking-Mats.jpg\" alt=\"Talking Mats\" width=\"165\" height=\"159\"><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">We<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u2019<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ll<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> be working with service user organisations to promote the survey to their networks. But <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">we\u2019d<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> also really like your help too. Please share the survey and encourage as many people as possible to fill it out. The more voices we hear, the more stories we collect and the more responses we receive, the greater the impact of <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the survey findings will be.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Those findings, which we hope to publish early in the New Year, will be used to influence Governments, Parliaments and Assemblies across the United Kingdom. The case that will be making to ministers, officials and parliamentarians \u2013 that people must have access to the speech and language therapy they need \u2013 will be all the stronger for it being based on service users\u2019 lived experiences.
